Hair Extensions Frequently Asked Questions in Leeds

These are the most common questions we’re asked about fitting hair extensions in Leeds.
Hopefully your questions answered below. If it’s not answered leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

How long do Great Lengths hair extensions last?

I recommend 3 months to prevent damage to your hair.

Great Lengths recommend bonding hair for 3 to 6 months. I totally disagree with this because the bonds are fitted less than an inch from your scalp, each month on average your hair grows around half and inch.

This means in 3 months the bond is two and half inches from your scalp and in 6 months its around 4 inches!

Bond removal is easy, but its the matted (dreadlock) hair behind the bond which takes time to untangle. By removing and replacing extensions within 3 month prevents hair damage and is easier to untangle.

Will Great Lengths Hair Extensions damage my hair?

No, If you care for your hair extensions correctly then no damage will occur to your natural hair.

Extensions do require regular care and maintenance, you will need to spend a few minutes a day caring for them, this will include Brushing 2 to 3 times daily, Combing after Shampooing & Conditioning, and Separating Bonds at least once weekly. We will demonstrate this once your hair extensions are fitted.

Secondly Great Lengths use a patented damage free keratin bonding method to attach extensions to your own hair, because other methods such as gluing, waxing, metal beads or twisting can damage your hair.

Can I Wash & Brush my hair the same?

Yes, washing is important to maintain your own hair and extensions. Your hair should be washed at least once a week with a pH 5.5 balanced shampoo to prolong the life of the bonds, incompatible products could damage the bonds. You are best of gently squeezing any excess water from your hair then blot drying with a towel.

No, your hair will need brushing 2 to 3 time daily with a soft natural brush to remove tangles and a wide tooth comb after you have shampooed and conditioned.

How long do bonded extensions take to put in?

Hair Extensions take anything from one to three hours to fit. This all depends on how many extensions you are having fitted, for a better idea on how long make an appointment for your free consultation.

How much do hair extensions cost?

This again depends on how many you’re having fitted and the look you are wanting to achieve. It can cost anywhere between £300 – £1000 to have extensions fitted. Until we have met you, we are unable to give a price over the phone. Please phone to book your free extensions consultation.

Can you see the bonds?

No, this is because each extension is pre-bonded and attached 1-2cm from the scalp about an inch apart. The bonds are close to your own hair colour, and by arranging them under your hair the extensions are virtually undetectable, the flat bonds are fully concealed.

Can I still colour my hair?

Yes, depending on what you’re having done such as highlights or full colour. Great Lengths extensions come in 38 natural shades from the lightest blond to the darkest black to match your natural hair and 15 fashion colours for edgier looks.

How many hair extensions will I need?

This will all depend on the style you wish to achieve through colour, volume or more length. This could be between 25 to 250.

Here’s a rough guideline to what you may need, until I’ve seen your hair and discussed styles can tell you exactly how many you will need.

Colour Strands
If you’re wanting to add coloured strands of extensions for highlights you would need between 25 to 75 depending on coverage and how many different colours you would need.

For Volume
it takes 25 to 100 extensions to get the volume, this will also depend on your natural hair type.

For Length
150 plus extensions would be needed to give a good length and coverage. One factor is how thin or thick your natural hair is and determines how many extensions are needed.

Full Head for Thickness
Between 150 to 200 extensions are required for a full head of thick hair.

Long and Fuller Styles
Anywhere between 200 to 250 extensions for long thick hair would be required.

Why cant you give a price over the phone?

We would love to tell you how much it will cost now, but unfortunately until you’ve met a hair extension expert they could never give you an exact price. This is why we offer free consultations where we…

  • Talk about your hair style, will it be length or thickness or both you’re after?
  • Check if your hair is suitable for extensions.
  • We would also match your hair colour closely to Great Lengths 38 colours .
  • From knowing your style and hair type I can order only the quantity of extensions we would need.
  • You will always have questions and concerns about fitting, caring and removing.

From knowing all of the above we can talk about the cost and take a deposit before ordering the hair extensions.
